FACULTY OF EDUCATION AND ARTS
The Department was formally named Department of Education and Counselling Psychology, but has presently changed to Department of Counselling Psychology. The Department was one of the Pioneer Departments in the University created in 2006 in the Faculty of Education and Arts; Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, Nigeria. Since its creation, the Department has been striving to attain academic excellence through numerous academic and research activities embarked upon by her highly dedicated and committed lecturers. The department started with Ten (10) students but, as at 2014/2015 session, the population has risen to Five Hundred and twenty (520). The first graduating students in this department were Eight (8). To date (2014/2015 session), the department has graduated Two Hundred and Fifty (250) students.
Counselling Psychology Department was the first department in the University to earn full Accreditation of her programmes in 2011. This was possible due to the cooperation, competence, efficiency and hardwork of the Staff in the department.
The department offered courses in Education, Guidance and Counselling and some teaching courses in other cognate departments, which qualified for the Awards of Degrees in B.A/B.Sc.(Ed) Counselling Psychology.
With committed efforts of the Staff, the department has grown tremendously: presently, the NUC has granted the Department the right to run Masters Degrees in Guidance and Counselling and Education Psychology. These programmes have since commenced.
The Department is blessed with high quality staff and adequate facilities to train students. In the Department, there are well equipped Counselling Laboratory and other useful facilities for teaching and learning.
