FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES
The Department of Chemistry offers the Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) Chemistry programme. The duration of the programme is a minimum of four years and a maximum of six years for students admitted through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or 100 Level Direct Entry (DE) students and minimum of three years with a maximum of five years for Direct Entry (DE) students admitted at 200 Level. The programme is structured strictly on the National Universities Commission (NUC) Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard (BMAS). In addition, the department services other science-based disciplines such as Agriculture, Biochemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Food Science and Technology, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Science Education, etc.
Department of Chemistry was founded in 2006 with an initial enrolment of seventeen (17) students. Presently, there are one hundred and ninety (190) students with Dr. (Mrs.) Ugoeze U. Elele as the Head of Department. The pioneer Head of the Department was Dr. Sani Muhammad Dangoggo (now Professor). Other Heads of Department since inception include Professor Mark A. Oladipo, Professor E. M. A. Olatunji, Mr. G. O. Adesina, Dr. B. E. N. Dauda (now Professor) and Dr. Ibrahim Isah Lakan. Also, there are twenty-one (21) members of staff in the department, comprising of fifteen (15) academic staff including one National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and six (6) non-academic staff.
