The Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu has commiserated with the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Mele Kyari over the death of Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru, the immediate past Group Managing Director.
Professor Adamu said the contributions of the late Group Managing Director to the development of the nation’s economy cannot be over emphasized, adding that the nation has lost a paragon in the oil and gas industry.
The Vice Chancellor stressed that late Baru’s envious contributions to IBB University, Lapai was second to none, hence the institution’s Senate decision to honour him during its Second Combined Convocation in 2018.
He maintained that for its numerous research in the basins, the entire NNPC has today become part of the University, such that the Corporation has endowed a professorial chair in Basinal Studies on one of the institution’s lead researchers.
Professor Abu Kasim Adamu therefore prayed for the repose of the soul of Dr. Maikanti Baru and urged the family to take solace in the fact that only Allah gives, and only Him takes.
He pointed out that the nation has lost one of her finest brains in the oil and gas sector of the economy.
It would be recalled that the NNPC had during the tenure of late Dr. Baru sponsored numerous researches on the exploration of oil in the Bida-Sokoto basins.
