The Niger State Police Command has been called upon to ensure a total review of its operational strategies if the current insecurity situation as it affects educational institutions is to be fully addressed.

The Vice Chancellor, IBB University, Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu made the call when the Area Commander in charge of Bida visited the University to access the security situation on the campus.

He said to curtail the current wave of criminality on campuses, additional measures are needed.

The Vice Chancellor appreciated the quick response of the State Police Command to a letter written by the University on security matters and assured that the the Management was ready provide all the necessary information that may be required.

Speaking earlier, the Area Commander in charge of Bida, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdulazeez Sanni who represented the State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Adamu Usman said considering the large environment which the University has, details are needed for prompt action to be taken.

He reiterated the State Command’s commitment to a safer learning environment, adding that quick actions would always be taken, even before distress calls are made.

In his remarks, Lapai Local Government Council Chairman, Alhaji Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo appreciated the State Police Command for the prompt response based on the University’s request, stressing that the Local Council would also continue to collaborate with the police for quicker responses.

He re-echoed the incessant attacks on innocent persons by some criminal elements in the area and assured that with all hands on deck, the challenge would be surmounted.

Also speaking the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Lapai, Superintendent of Police Yakubu Bisalla Yusuf appealed to the University Management to request landlords to provide security personnels in their respective houses to protect tenants and complement the police.
