The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu has advised students to embrace entrepreneurship skills to confront future challenges.

He gave the advice in a symposium titled, “Student Life Empowerment ” organised by Students’ Union Government through the Office of the Vice President, with the theme, “Undergraduate Opportunities and Challenges”.

Professor Abu Kasim explained that students must take entrepreneur seriously, affirming that the area will enable them get additional skills in addition to their certificates.

According to him, the opportunity, if well enhance will empower and equip them to join the larger society after graduation.

The Vice Chancellor stressed that the importance of entrepreneur cannot be over emphasized as it will also provide and sustain students and make them job creators rather than job seekers.

He added that the University has set up an entrepreneur skill center, promising that the Institution was also coming up with an incubation center where students will be given training after which they will be provided with starter packs.

Professor Abu Kasim Adamu however commended the initiative, urging them to organize the event annually to enable other students benefit from it.

In his submissions, one of the Guest Speakers, Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim Gudugi, said amidst unemployment, frustrations and Nigeria’s labour markets, students must embrace entrepreneur skills, highlighting the importance of the programme in the lives of the undergraduate students

Dr. Gudugi who is the University’s Director, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development urged them to venture into entrepreneurship, buttressing that the Management of the Institution was ready to support any student with laudable and workable business idea, adding that the University has all the necessary facilities in place that an entrepreneur would need.

On her part an ex-student of the Institution and also guest speaker, Nancy Jacob, emphasised the use of social media in marketing an entrepreneurship Idea urging young entrepreneurs not wait for huge capital before venturing into business.

Also speaking, the Dean of Student of Affair, Dr. Bashir Sarkin Daji advised students to always make sure they cultivate the spirit of entrepreneurship in their lives, adding it is an opportunity to face the challenging economic condition of the time.

He appreciated the University Management for support and encouragement in the organisation of the event.

In their separate remark at the end of the program,the Student Union Government President Comrade Idris Baba Alhaji and Vice President SUG who is also the Convener of the event Amina Umar Jiya stated that the aim of the program is to sensitize and prepare student on the challenges ahead of them during and after graduation.
