The Vice-chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare has advised parents to continue to invest in quality education for their children.

He gave the advice while speaking as the Chairman of the occasion at the 2019 Children’s Day celebration of Lapai Local Government held at the Mohammed Kobo Secondary School football pitch.

Professor Maiturare pointed out that the role of education in the development of any society cannot be overemphasized, stressing that the cost of quality education cannot in anyway be compared to illiteracy.

The Vice-chancellor said that education was the only enduring legacy a parent could bequeath to a child to make him or her realise his or her potentials.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of preparations made by the organisers of the 2019 Children’s Day celebration and also commended the efforts of teachers of various schools, public and private, that show-cased different talents of their pupils at the occasion.

Professor Maiturare assured that the University would continue to support the celebration of Children’s Day in Lapai and congratulated the winners of various categories of prizes during the ceremony.

He also appreciated the quantum of unflinching support the University was receiving from the Lapai Emirate, which he said has enabled the favourable learning environment for members of the University community.

In his goodwill message, the Etsu Lapai, Alhaji Umaru Bago III reaffirmed the commitment of his emirate to ensuring that education for all is implemented in every family.

The Etsu who was represented at the occasion by Ceceko Lapai who doubles as the Distrct Head of Takuti, Major General Usman Abdulkhadir , said that no effort would be spared at promoting quality education for the people of Lapai emirate.

He commended the Management of IBB University, Lapai for being supportive to activities of Lapai emirate and for maintaining cordial relationship.

He underscored the need to celebrate talents of children in a unique occasion such as the one being celebrated on 27th of May of every year in the country.

The Etsu Lapai applauded the children for working hard to present one or two talents from their respective schools.

Earlier in his address, the Education Secretary, Lapai Local Government, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar disclosed that Children’s Day is celebrated every year for pupils from various schools, either public or private, to demonstrate their talents in a competitive atmosphere and to familiarize with each other.

He thanked the Management of IBB University, Lapai for extending hands of friendship, which made the 2019 edition of Children’s Day celebration more colourful.

Climax of this year’s Children’s Day celebration in Lapai was the presentations of short drama by Kobo Primary School, Lapai on security challenges in the country and the need for traditional Institutions and relevant stakeholders to support the security agencies towards mitigating the hydra-headed monster; and another presentation by Hazaka International School, Lapai on the School feeding programme of the Federal Government.

Other highlight was the presentations of prizes for three best schools who stood out in all performances, with IBB University Staff School carting away two prizes in cultural display and match pass.

The match-pass was reviewed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, supported by Principal Officers and other invited guests.
