The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in order to boost its research activities on meteorology and climatology.

Speaking while signing the MoU on the collaboration with the University at the NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja, the Director-General of the Agency, Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi underscored the fundamental roles of the organisation in facilitating the growth and development of diverse sectors of national economy.

He pointed out that it was in realisation of the objectives of NiMet that it became necessary for the Agency to extend hands of linkages and partnerships to educational institutions for far-reaching positive impact of meteorology and climatology on various sectors of nation’s economy.

Professor Mashi applauded the Management of IBB University for being among the first few educational institutions in the country that have explored the opportunity of collaborating with NiMet; disclosing that Main Station of Resident Observatory Station (ROS) would be established in the Institution to facilitate collation, storage and quality control of meteorological and climatological activities.

The Director-General assured of support for infrastructural development, training and capacity building on meteorology for the personnel of the University.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare who led the University Management to the occasion, expressed appreciation for the hospitality accorded his team.

He disclosed that the essence of the visit was to formalise the positive relationship that has begun with the Agency and to further strengthen it.

Professor Maiturare lauded the Management of NiMet for accurate weather predictions, particularly in the 2019 weather forecasts.

The Vice-Chancellor while assuring the Management of NiMet for University’s readiness to fully comply with the terms of agreement in the Memorandum of Understanding also congratulated the Director-General for landmark achievements recorded since his assumption of office at the Agency.

Giving the Vote of thanks, the Director, Engineer and Technical Services, Engineer Bashir Sa’ad appreciated the Management of IBB University for partnering with NiMet.

Highlights of the ceremony were exchange of singed documents on MoU and presentation of sourvenirs by the two heads of organisations.
