The High Impact Geological Research Laboratory and Perimeter Fence endowed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has been commissioned.
In a speech shortly before the official commissioning, the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Malam Mele Kolo Kyari
reiterated that the Corporation would continue to demonstrate commitment to sustainable empowerment of communities and higher institutions of learning in the country.
Represented by Group Executive Director, Corperate Services, Hajia Aisha Farida Katagum, he reaffirmed this commitment at the official commissioning of the Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru Geological Research Center and Perimeter Fence at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.
Malam Mele Kyari said this is part of the Corporation’s impactful corporate social responsibilities which culminated in the construction and equipping of High Impact Geological Laboratory named as Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru Geological Research Center and 10.7 kilometers perimeter fence.
Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, said the Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru Geological Research Centre at the University is a regional hub for high impact laboratory services with facilities that include ground magnetometer, falling head permeameter, accelerated solvent extractor, near subsurface auger drilling machine, rock cutting and polishing machine, ore microscopes, several polarizing and zoom microscopes all needed and supplied to be deployed to oil and gas exploration research and solid mineral studies.
He acknowledged that Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University is fast growing and rapidly expanding with new programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels enabling it to attain its vision of being a world class center of excellence.
The Vice Chancellor, however, noted that the University is still in dare need of additional corporate social responsibility supports from the NNPC of which he listed completion of its Senate building, student hostels, large lecture theatres and more laboratories to meet the heavily growing students population.
He reaffirmed that the Niger State Government and the Management of IBB University Lapai will continue to appreciate the GMD and NNPC family adding that recently, approval was given for Environmental Impact Assessment of Bida and Sokoto Basins to the IBBUL, FUT Minna, UDUS Sokoto as well as Federal University Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Governor of Niger State and Visitor to the University, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Sani Bello affirmed that the two edifices will not only add value to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, but the county at large.
He explained that the laudable projects will go a long way to improve research and as well improve the security architecture of the University.
Former Head of State and Chairman IBBUL Endowment Fund Board of Trustees, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, represented by Chairman, Water and Sewage Board, Engineer Musa Inuwa Kuta recalled that after his appeal to the late GMD, the NNPC came up with the Professorial chair, stressing that nothing could be more timely than this perimeter fence in this season of insecurity.
General Abdulsalam Abubakar appreciated the NNPC and appealed for the completion of the Senate building and to explore more areas of collaboration.
