The Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru has commended Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University for doing a good job in the research for oil and gas exploration in Bida and Sokoto basins.
Dr. Baru gave the commendation while addressing a team from the University, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Mohammed Kudu Santuraki, who were in his office on a special visit.
He disclosed that by the time the research activities and the exploration efforts have been synchronized, the outcome would be submitted to the Presidency for further action, pointing out that it was as a result of the efforts of the University in this direction that motivated the Corporation to endow the first NNPC Professorial Chair at IBBU.
The Group Managing Director who observed that the relationship between the Corporation and the University was full of memories, maintained that it is one that would endure given the seriousness of the institution in the pursuit of it goals.
He thanked the University for the honour done him, and assured that NNPC would continue to support IBBU as part of its corporate social responsibility, and looked forward to seeing the University become a centre of excellence in hydrocarbon exploration reasearch.
Dr. Baru further prayed that the Professorial Chair sponsored by the Corporation would blossom.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Council who led the delegation on the visit, Dr. Mohammed Kudu Santuraki expressed the gratitude of the entire IBBU community to the Corporation for the opportunity to undertake research on hydrocarbon exploration in the Bida and Sokoto basins, stressing that the development has promoted the profile and rating of the University.
He disclosed that the team was on the visit for three main reasons, namely to thank the Group Managing Director for the opportunities given to the University to be involved and to continue research on Nigeria’s frontier basins, the extension of Corporation’s social responsibility, and to bid the GMD farewell, having served meritoriously.
Dr. Santuraki announced that the Council of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai had approved that the High-impact Geological Laboratory Complex at IBB University be named after Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru.
The Council Chairman maintained that the University looked forward to further engagements with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
On the team for the visit were; the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare; The Registrar, Alhaji Musa Ango Abdullahi; Bursar, Mallam Abdul Garba; Directors of University Research Centre, Academic Planning, Works and that of Consultancy, Professor Nuhu Obaje, Dr. Aliyu Paiko, Engr Abdulkadir Sani and Mallam Suleman Liman, respectively.
Presentation of souvenirs by the two organizations marked a highpoint of the visit.
