As the deadly COVID-19 pandemic continue to rear its ugly head the world over, a don at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Dr. Dickson Achimugu Musa with some researchers are working on a study of possible potency of selected Nigerian vegetables as a therapy to the scourge.

Making a presentation to the Management at 2nd COVID-19 Workshop in the Senate Chamber of the University, through a First Class graduate of Microbiology of the University, Miss Halima Usman, the Principal Investigator hypothetically explained that there are evidences to prove that some Nigerian vegetables have therapeutic elements that could remedy the ravaging coronavirus.

He stated that the study was progressing steadily and appreciated the unwavering support and cooperation of the University Management; assuring that the outcome would be made public as soon as the research was concluded.

Speaking while taking the preliminary report of the study, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu commended the efforts of the research team, particularly when COVID-19 pandemic curve is taking another rise in some parts of the country and the world at large.

He also expressed satisfaction with doggedness of the Central Research Team of the University for initiating a seroprevalence study on the pandemic which has been adjudged by reputable national and international organisations to be the first on the deadly scourge.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that the Management of the University was determined to support every viable research project that would impact meaningfully on humanity.

In his remarks, the Coordinating Director, University Research and Development, Professor Nuhu George Obaje reaffirmed that the Central Research Team of the Institution was determined to pursue with every vigour valid research project that could place the University at a better stand with its peers worldwide.

The Registrar, Alhaji Musa Ango Abdullahi in his vote of thanks, appreciated the bold steps already taken by the University research team and charged other members of the academic staff to initiate research efforts that would bolster the image of IBB University at global level.
