SLEDT 2019 EDITION: IBBUL EMERGES MOST PEACEFUL INSTITUTION IN NIGERIA

The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai has emerged the most peaceful Institution at the 2019 edition of Students’ Leaders Development Training and Tournament.

The tournament which is an annual event had in attendance a number of universities across the country with IBB University, Lapai hosting 2019 edition on the theme , “Raising Green Leaders for Green Campus”.

Declaring the winners at finals of the tournament, the Founder/Director, Strategy and Operations, Lead Transformation Initiative, Mr Titilayo Femi Kings disclosed that the tournament was keenly contested among the participating universities in various categories.

He disclosed that Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi won the overall best SLEDT Students Union Government of the University, while IBB University, Lapai came second runners-up as “Best 2019 Students’ Union Government in Nigeria” and Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto emerged third runners-up.

Presenting the trophy to the winner of overall best 2019 SLEDT Students Union Government, the Vice-chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare represented by the Deputy Vice-chancellor (Administration), Professor Abu-Kasim Adamu congratulated the Winners and applauded the initiative of the organisers for coming up with a competition that would further enhance academic excellence in Nigerian university system, urging them to keep up with the good work.

Five universities that made it to the finals of the competition include IBB University, Lapai, Ekiti State University, Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, Federal University of Lafia and Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi and were accompanied by respective Dean of Students.

The Founder/Director, Strategy and Operations, Lead Transformation Initiative, Mr Titilayo Femi Kings had led the participating universities on a courtesy visit to the Management of IBB University, Lapai to express appreciation for the overwhelming hospitality accorded the participants on their arrival in the Institution.

He described Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare as the most Students Friendly Vice Chancellor in Nigeria for giving Students welfare utmost priority in the activities of the University.

Mr Kings explained that the essence of SLEDT is to ensure that people no longer see students’ leadership as thuggery but as an association of highly intelligent people.

Recieving the participants in the Senate Chamber of the University earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare welcomed both the organisers and participating universities to IBB University and commended the organisers for the initiative.

He said that since his assumption as Vice Chancellor at the Institution, students’ leadership in IBB University has been so effective as well as a representation of everything that SLEDT stands for.

Professor Maiturare charged the students to make good use of the opportunity given to them to serve in their respective schools.

According to him, “as leaders in your various campuses, you have very great opportunities to make a difference and leave behind lasting legacies both in your environment and also in your good selves. This is because many great leaders in Nigeria and all over the world had their roots in students unionism”.

The Vice Chancellor further stated that leadership is a challenge; the challenge to always live above average.

Earlier, the Students Affairs, IBB University, Lapai, Dr Ishaaq Alhaji Aliyu Ma’ali, thanked the Management for immense support at all times and welcomed participants to the university.

The Registrar, Alhaji Musa Ango Abdullahi thanked the Officials for giving the IBB University a hosting right and wished them a fruitful competition.
