AS ACCREDITATION EXERCISE CONTINUES, TEAM BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION COMMENDS IBBUL, EXPRESSES HOPE FOR CONTINUED EXCELLENCE

The National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation panel for the Department of Business Administration has concluded its assessment visit to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, with commendations on the Institution’s progress and a renewed call for sustaining standards.

Speaking during the exit briefing held at the Abdulkadir Kure Senate Chamber, the Team Leader, Professor Samaila Maude, emphasized that the essence of accreditation is to strengthen quality and ensure global competitiveness of Nigerian universities, not to destroy, but to build institutions.

He affirmed that IBB University is steadily advancing in key operational areas and that the team’s observations were targeted at fostering continuous improvement.

“We are partners in progress. This University is our own, and we are here to support growth and excellence. There is no witch-hunting in accreditation; only a collective push towards achieving the best,” he stated.

Professor Maude highlighted the dedication and cooperation demonstrated by Staff and Management throughout the exercise, describing it as a mark of institutional maturity.

He expressed optimism that the recommendations provided would be given priority attention, noting that IBBUL has great potential to become a leading hub for management and entrepreneurial research.

He urged the University to sustain its drive for infrastructural development, digital integration in teaching and learning, and standard academic practices that align with national and international benchmarks.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Professor Salihu Mohammed Niworu, appreciated the NUC team for carrying out the assignment with high professionalism, fairness, and commitment to quality assurance.

He reiterated the University’s unwavering resolve to implement the feedback received in order to uplift the Business Administration programme to a distinguished height.

“At IBBUL, quality education is not negotiable. We are building an institution that offers practical knowledge, supports innovation, and produces graduates that can compete anywhere in the world,” he said.

NUC ACCREDITATION TEAMS COMMEND IBBUL’s ACADEMIC GROWTH

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence as it received the first exit briefing of the National Universities Commission Accreditation Teams for four academic programmes.

Welcoming the team leaders and members, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, reaffirmed that IBBUL stands firmly on the foundation of quality, innovation, and global relevance in teaching and research.

He noted that the University has, over the years, strengthened its academic structures and improved capacity development for staff in line with NUC benchmarks.

The Vice Chancellor stated that the accreditation process serves as a critical measure of institutional progress and accountability, adding that IBBUL remains open to recommendations that will support continuous improvement.

He expressed appreciation for the professional conduct of the teams during their engagements with the departments and the University community.

Professor Sulaiman also assured that the Management would strategically act on the observations made by the accreditation teams.

He lauded the commitment of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s administration toward repositioning education, describing the support as a strong enabler for IBBUL’s transformation agenda.

The Vice Chancellor reiterated the University’s determination to enhance research output, expand infrastructure, and sustain academic competitiveness that guarantees the production of graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

Earlier Leader of the Islamic Studies team, Professor Dalhatu Yusuf, applauded the University for maintaining a curriculum anchored on intellectual depth and moral values.

He noted that IBBUL’s Islamic Studies programme is equipped to produce scholars who can respond to contemporary societal needs while upholding ethical standards.

Also, Team Leader of Geology team and scholar from the University of Jos, Professor Abu Momoh, hailed the significant improvements in the programme’s teaching facilities, adding that the staff demonstrated high level competence and commitment to practical based learning.

He emphasized the importance of sustaining research partnerships to address environmental and climate related challenges in the state.

Also speaking, Professor Stephen Obrike of Nasarawa State University commended the University’s collaborative spirit and steady advancements in key academic fields.

He encouraged further strengthening of fieldwork opportunities to build students’ practical experiences and global competitiveness.

For the French programme, Professor Lateef Babatunde Ayeleru, FNAL, of the University of Ibadan, praised the impressive student enthusiasm for foreign language studies at IBBUL.

He emphasized that French education opens strategic opportunities across diplomacy, international relations, and trade particularly with Niger State’s proximity to Francophone countries.

On her part, Leader of the Agricultural Economics team, Professor Charity Aremu, acknowledged IBBUL’s expanding influence in Agricultural innovation and advocacy.

She encouraged stronger industry collaboration and continuous investment in agricultural laboratories to support problem solving research.

Delivering a vote of thanks, the Registrar, Alhaji Idris Sale Kusherki, hailed the accreditation exercise as an invaluable quality assurance process and a catalyst for institutional advancement.

The Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, has reiterated the University’s commitment to advancing scientific research and innovation for Nigeria’s sustainable development.

The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Muhammad Salihu Niworu, stated this during the opening ceremony of the 4th Faculty of Natural Sciences Annual Conference (FONSAC 2025).

With the theme “Advancing Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” the Vice-Chancellor described the conference as timely, noting that Nigeria’s future prosperity depends on embracing technology-driven growth and innovation-based solutions.

Professor Sulaiman acknowledged the continuous support of the Visitor to the University and Executive Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, for prioritising education and providing the enabling environment for academic excellence in the state.

He commended the Faculty of Natural Sciences for consistently promoting research that addresses real-world challenges in Health, Agriculture, Energy, Environment and Technology, encouraging participants to collaborate and translate knowledge into national development outcomes.

Declaring the conference open, he urged participants to engage in fruitful deliberations that will reshape Nigeria’s scientific future.

Delivering the Keynote Address, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’adu Ahmed represented by the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Oluwole Omorenikeji congratulated IBBUL for its infrastructural transformation, including the new Paiko-Lapai road and iconic Senate Building, describing them as symbols of “renewed hope and institutional rebirth.”

She highlighted the Federal Government’s recent approval of forward-looking programmes such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Biotechnology, and Renewable Energy, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, targeted at building a knowledge-driven economy.

According to her, Nigeria’s development will no longer rely on oil but on science, innovation and an empowered youthful population, calling on researchers to patent inventions and leverage TETFund opportunities for commercialization.

The Registrar, Alhaji Idris Sale Kusherki, represented by the Deputy Registrar, Council and Management Affairs, Hajiya Amina Ndayako, delivered a goodwill message encouraging participants to apply scientific knowledge in addressing societal needs.

He highlighted what he called the 5Cs of Sustainable Development, Cleanliness, Community, Culture, Care and Corporate Governance, describing them as a practical roadmap for research and policy interventions.

Alhaji Kusherki said adopting the principles would support Nigeria’s transition towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the nation moves towards 2030 and beyond.

Earlier in his welcome remark, the Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Professor Musa Mohammed, expressed delight over the rising research interests in FONSAC since inception.

He thanked the University Management for the unwavering support and urged participants to use the platform to strengthen knowledge exchange and collaborations for national advancement.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Central Organizing Committee, Professor Yahaya Aliyu Badeggi appreciated the overwhelming response from scholars and assured that selected papers will be published.

NUC TEAMS BEGIN ACCREDITATION EXERCISE AT IBB UNIVERSITY, LAPAI.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation teams have commenced the evaluation of academic programmes at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, with an assurance that the process will be objective and improvement-driven.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor at the Abdulkadir Kure Senate Chamber, the Team Leader, Professor Lateef Babatunde Ayeleru, a Professor of European Studies from the University of Ibadan, said the exercise was aimed at strengthening standards across Nigerian universities.

“This is not a witchhunt. We are part of the system and we understand the challenges. Our duty is to exchange ideas, assess progress and recommend areas that require attention,” he said.

The programmes scheduled for evaluation are in the Faculties of Agriculture, Applied Science and Technology, and Languages and Communication Studies. The Departments are Geology, Agricultural Economics and Extension Services, Crop Production, Animal Production, Islamic Studies and French.

In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, expressed optimism that the assessment would improve the University’s academic delivery.

He noted that the Institution faces funding pressures following the creation of two additional state-owned universities.

“Our resources, which previously came to a single institution, are now spread among three universities. But we remain committed to meeting quality standards,” he said.

Professor Sulaiman added that the visiting accreditation teams were the first official guests to be hosted in the newly commissioned Senate Building, which was inaugurated nine days earlier.

The Registrar, Alhjai Idris Sale Kusherki, pledged full cooperation from the Management, Deans and Heads of Departments to ensure a smooth process.

After the meeting, the accreditation teams proceeded to inspect key facilities, including the Central library and Professorial complex, before continuing engagements with the various departments.
