Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai is to benefit from Information Communication Technology intervention of the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.

The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami gave the assurance when members of the University Management, led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

The Minister emphasized that state-of-the-art facilities would be installed on the campus to improve internet connections.

He disclosed that the performance of the Ministry were hinged on the eight policies earlier put together, which he pointed out were being implemented steadily.

Professor Pantami stressed that seventy percent baseline was given to the Ministry at a Ministerial retreat last year and that more than that has been achieved.

The Honourable Minister commended the performance of the University in research activities and urged the Management to maintain the tempo

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu commended the Ministry for recording an unimaginable higher Gross Domestic Product(GDP) for the country through ICT last year.

He emphasized that such achievement was capable of taking Nigeria to more greater heights, stressing that IBB University would not want to be left behind in the ICT race to greatness, being a training base for
digital literacy.

Professor Adamu said IBB University has thus far keyed into the journey for digital economy.

The Vice Chancellor enumerated some of the area the University intends to go in line with digital economy to include, hub digitalization, bandwidth coverage and support, digital economy centres and scholarships.

Others are, capacity building, virtual libraries and e-learning facilities.

Crucial to these, the University requestedthw following; one thousand pieces of computers for use in offices and ICT Centres, digitalization and more data for the University records and general electronic compliance, institutionalization of a Centre of Excellence Hub.

Others are, Smart classrooms and ICT laboratories and above all the need to commence a Faculty of Information Communication and Digital Economy with programmes like, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Business Information Technology and a host of others.

Highlights of the visit was exchange of gift by the two organisations.
